About Me.
From the start of my academic career, I have always been enamored by working in the setting of healthcare. Being able to understand individuals’ health and help them breakdown that information that can help them be champions of their own health. Working as a clinician in Cardiac Rehabilitation for the last five years has helped me to learn a lot about what is wanted and needed in the current healthcare climate. I noticed especially in lower socioeconomic communities where there are poorer health outcomes there is dire need for intervention, and this is where I felt that a program such as Health Care Informatics (HCI) at University of San Diego (USD) would help me better understand how I can use resources available and how to create avenues to address those needs.
Upon completion of my HCI degree at USD I hope to be able to enter the field of health informatics and analytics and be able to create platforms to deliver better healthcare for underserved communities. I want to be able to learn more about is the sector of patient education and how I can champion for patients with lower health literacy and clinical outcomes. What I have learned about the patient experience is that they need help in understanding the health process, understanding why they are in the hospital or the health state that they are in. To be in a field where I can help them become better advocates not only for themselves but also their families and immediate communities. They say it takes a village to raise a child, I want my child to be delivering better care through disseminating what I have learned and continue to grow from my time in the HCI program.
