Data and Knowledge Management
Introduction
In Data and Knowledge Management we look at medical terminology, knowledge management, spread sheet development, data management, use of SQL to manage data, statistical analysis, selection of statistical tools to evaluate a problem.
Artifact #1 - Hospital Access Database
In this file database tables were created for a hospital data storage database for patient and physician basic information. The ability of this database was to be able to run SQL queries to find relevant information on physicians and patients in a scenario where queries were run to find patients by type of diagnosis, physician who cared for them or even data on just one patient.
This access database was created to be able to achieve said goals for hospital operations and care and be able to mine the information that was wanted. Having the ability to understand the basics to building a database was extremely helpful in understanding the standards that need to be followed to have a success and useful database.
Artifact #2 - Hospital Database Project
Hospital database creation for handling resource allocation currently done by the hospital and how to re-allocate to increase better workflow and reduce redundancies in care. Having the ability to create a database is an important step in creating a universal language that a hospital uses to document data so that all information is recorded appropriately for late use.
This database collects data for physicians and the patients they care for in terms of basic demographics. This allows the hospital to see who these physicians are providing care for as well as their individual patient volumes. The database also collects patient diagnoses and can be cross referenced however the data is mined from the database. The use of table creation, primary keys, secondary keys, alternate keys and foreign keys are used. This is return creates the ability to use SQL to run queries and obtain desired information. Methodologies, results and future adaptations are discussed in the development and outcomes from this database project.
Artifact #3 - Reflective Practice Worksheet for Audit
Here a reflective worksheet was used to analyze my work on a safeguards audit of a project plan for EHR implementation in a small clinic. Understanding the technology behind protecting PHI as well as technology hardware used for patient care is a very complex issue and this reflective worksheet helped me to breakdown the processes that went into the development. Knowing how to develop the proper plan is a challenge, however it also needs to understand on how to improve the process and areas that were overlooked.
From the reflective practice done there was the creation of the action plan moving forward and how to be able to best develop the project and tasks for the future. Pinpointing areas of focus and areas of weakness allowed me to better understand how to operate as a team player and leader in areas of technology implementation and the complexities that it carries with it. Setting up target timelines as well and having quality measures set up to reach those target and know those targets have been achieved was an important factor to understand as well.
